The Dutch government has provided funding of over 100 M€ to stimulate care efficiencies through health technology. This funding is intended to lover the overall cost of care, decrease the workload of care workers and improve the care quality across the board. The funding is available for care institutions to enable them to pick the most impactful health tech solutions for their need.

The Netherlands is struggling with one of the highest care cost per capita, and a 6,8% year-over -year increase in cost in 2023. Aging population, increased care need, especially in non plannable care, and overall increase of care cost have contributed to the situation at hand today. Efficiencies can be achieved in all aspects of care, and by all service providers in scope: hospitals, mental health, rehabilitation, elderly and disabled care, private medical practitioners, public and private sectors.

Apart from efficiencies in existing care patterns, the Dutch are looking at tools to work across existing healthcare silos and modernize healthcare processes influenced by current trends including shift from in-patient to out-patient care, rapid progress of digitalization in both operations and patient care as well as rise of sustainability, including energy-efficiency and recycling. The funding, named STOZ (Stimulation Plan Digitalization in Care) allows health providers to apply for funding for the initial pilot and well as the rollout (max 750K€). Dutch healthcare specialists regularly visit Finland as Finland has great use cases on technology to tackle key themes faced in the Netherland.
